Configure Notion calendars with your AI agent

Use an authorized MCP assistant to choose a Notion database, configure event filters and details, and manage your calendar connection.

Quick answer

Connect a compatible MCP client to Notion to Calendar, authorize the accounts it can use, and describe the calendar you want. The assistant can validate and create a Calendar Link, adjust its configuration, and check synchronization status. Notion to Calendar maintains the connection after the conversation.

Before you connect

Use a Notion to Calendar account with access to the database you want to configure. Configurable Calendar Links and direct Google or Outlook connections require Premium. You can start free with one calendar from the dashboard.

Your assistant must support remote MCP and OAuth with a client registered for Notion to Calendar. Adding an endpoint alone is not enough. If your client asks for an OAuth client ID you have not been given, contact Notion to Calendar support before continuing. Installation steps depend on the client; this guide does not certify compatibility with every assistant.

Step 1: Connect your assistant

Connecting an assistant grants access. It does not create a calendar or start synchronization.

  1. Open the remote MCP connection settings in your compatible assistant.
  2. Enter https://notiontocalendar.com/api/mcp as the server URL and use the OAuth client registered for your assistant.
  3. Follow the sign-in flow to Notion to Calendar. Review and approve the requested access to your Notion and provider accounts.

Step 2: Describe your calendar

Ask the assistant to inspect the database fields and preview the configuration before creating the calendar. The property names and filter options must match your database. It may ask you to choose a date field or clarify a filter.

  • Create a calendar with the confirmed events in this database. Use the Event date property.
  • Include the location and project link in the event details.
  • Change this calendar to show only events from the Website project.

Step 3: Choose where events appear

For Apple Calendar or another iCal app, ask for the subscription URL, then add it in that calendar app. Keep the URL private. Returning a URL does not subscribe your app or confirm that it has refreshed.

For a direct Google or Outlook connection, ask the assistant to connect the calendar. Complete any separate provider sign-in and access approval in your browser. Google uses a dedicated calendar; Outlook uses a writable calendar from your authorized account.

Direct connections support two-way edits on mapped, non-recurring events when enabled. They remain in beta. An iCal subscription is read-only and its calendar app controls refresh timing.

Step 4: Check the result

A queued operation is not a completed sync. Once configured, Notion to Calendar maintains the connection; you do not need to ask the agent to copy events after each change.

  1. Ask the assistant to read back the saved calendar configuration and check the operation status.
  2. For direct connections, check synchronization status and open the destination calendar to confirm an expected event.
  3. For iCal, confirm the subscription in your calendar app and compare an event with its Notion source.

Troubleshooting

The assistant cannot connect

Check that the client supports remote MCP and the registered OAuth configuration. Reconnect through the normal sign-in flow. Do not paste account tokens into the conversation.

My database or account is missing

Check the sources and accounts you authorized for the assistant. Provider sign-in and permission for the assistant to use that provider are separate steps.

The calendar has been created but events are missing

Read the saved date field and filters, then check the operation and sync status. Pending work is not complete. For iCal subscriptions, also check that the receiving app has fetched the feed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I configure a calendar from ChatGPT?

Yes. We verified the custom MCP connection in ChatGPT on November 6, 2026: sign-in, database discovery, calendar creation, and configuration changes with saved results checked in Notion to Calendar. You still need a registered OAuth client for your connection. This check did not include native Google or Outlook synchronization from ChatGPT.

Do I need to keep the conversation open?

No. The assistant configures a Calendar Link. Notion to Calendar maintains the saved connection independently of that conversation.

Can the assistant change my filters later?

Yes, with authorized access it can inspect and validate a new configuration, update the Calendar Link, and read back the saved result.

Does this import all my calendar events into Notion?

No. Direct sync updates supported events linked to Notion pages. Unrelated calendar events do not become Notion pages.
